CLAIRE FLEURY

Claire Fleury is an actress, writer and performer originally from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Claire is also a fashion designer and art curator, based in New York City in Chinatown, Lower east Side.

 

After getting her MFA at DasArts (Advanced Research in Theater and Dance Studies) in Amsterdam in 2000, she has been working non stop on writing, directing  and performing her own work, as well as collaborating with others.

 

From 2000 until 2011, Claire conceived, directed, wrote and performed 12 original shows, in the Netherlands, Scotland, United States and Belgium. Her work has been shown in Dutch, English and Dutch Sign Language, and involve text, movement, video and/or soundscapes and performance.

 

She worked as a guest director for the Odd Enjinears in 2006, directing 'Drive', in which she also performed the lead role.

 

She also was a guest director at Hand Theater (theater for the deaf in Holland), where she conceived 'Hotel Alaska'.

 

From 2004 until 2009, she was an actress in theatre shows by renowned Dutch Director Laura van Dolron, with the highlight of that collaboration being the BNG prize for best production in 2007.

 

In 2008 Claire started writing her own one woman shows, of which the first one, 'All The Lonely People and me' received a grant from the Netherlands Fund For Performing Arts (NFPK) for the re run.

 

Her next monologue 'A Woman of no Distinction' was also honored with a grant from the same prestigious fund. This solo show opened in Amsterdam in March 2010 with the Dutch version, and was selected to be performed in English at the NYC Fringe Festival in August 2010, as well as at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in September 2010.

 

Claire recently wrote  a new play called 'The Guests of February': 'a hopeful attempt at the understanding of everything' This new show came out (in Dutch, for now), at the Rozen Theater. This is her third play in a row that got sponsored by a Dutch fund for the Arts.

 

Claire is always looking for a combination of art, performance and fashion in everything and tries to bring all of these fields together with a sense of humor and elegance.
